I know that i shldnt be blogging.. but who can resist the temptation of blogging about his last day in TPJC. i know i used to blog about how boring tpjc is, and how liveless my class can be sometimes. but i guess i appreciate it very much. the 2 yrs jc experience has sort of been a weird package encapsulating all kinds of feelings. As we went through the emotional roller-coaster ride of further understanding our ownselves, we learnt more of skills that would perhaps play an integral part in future. perhaps those skills are parted to us in a subtle manner, without the realisation of our conscience but most important of all is that we have matured into more responsible individuals having an important part to play when we step into mainstream society eventually.
the day started of with our last morning assembly in the courtyard. Year 2s stood right in front, where as the year ones behind. non civic tutors teachers usually align themselves at the edge of the courtyard where a single movement backward might result in their landing among the shrubs or rolling down the relatively steep slope.
the mood was kind of undescribable. excited yet sad? dunno. often enough, we let go to find ourselves wishing that we never let it go.
we proceeded to LT 4, for maths lecture. i secretly recorded mdm chen, our math lecturer cum tutor with jamie's indispensable digicam which he locks it under safe and key erm.. in his locker. lol. went through AP and GP. sat at the last row as assigned by mdm chen for the sake of monitoring attendance, as she used to say.
civics was next. mr tan didnt say anything but merely distributed the prelims results slip. gotta say his comments and remarks this time round were sortof encouraging. and this is so un ktish
we went around school taking photographs, initially at our former civics class, E106. the place where terrible PW took place. the place were i remember we used to have malay lessons at on tuesday afternoons. i remember A06's first civics lesson. kt bought his personal HP notebook and played a cd about SARS and we were told to crowd around the labtop. and before that, we had to speak about ourselves. lol. i was sitting at the last row, most left hand corner.
alright. at half an hour before the farewell assembly was supposed to commence, the crowd started building up outside the auditorium doors. eventually we went in. after a long wait the ceremony started. the auditorium was packed, to use a jargon, it was exceeding its carrying capacity. the monotony of the long wait was broken not by the ppt slides which kept on repeating but umbrella man's/boy's grand entrance through the side door. before the ceremony, word went round that he was going to wear a skirt for the event. the half-filled auditorium cheered like mad upon the sight of umbrella man in skirt. daunted by the unexpected attention, umbrella man ran out a moment later and when he came back, he was escorted by the discipline master.
the principal made a speech which to my personal opinion is very much irrelevant. perhaps im too immature and lack the experience. however, touching on teh college's core values is somehow very very weird. sometimes, i wonder. is there such a need for educational instituitions to list out their strategic thrusts or core values. i mean, as long as the values are good, it should be instilled into everybody, right?
however, i was impressed by 2 things. firstly, through her speech she assured me that she has faith in us. she rarely touched on our batch's poor academic standing despite importance of the whole batch doing well. her reason is that because she has confidence in us. that we are mature enough and deserve no naggings or pep talks from her. sometimes, it might appear as if she is lazy or cant be bothered. but what makes tpjc different is that the staff give us room to make our own decisions and the misconception of the general public is that we are slack. isnt this what the government wants? more room for creativity and independent learning?
secondly. she ended off her speech ( which made us super restless ) by this quote which sparked off some sort of itnerest in me.
"a pessimist makes difficulties out of his opportunities while an optimist makes opportunities our of his difficulties" very meaningful. ponder for a moment..
e staff prepared 2 montage. the 1st one was a journey through time. although a large percentage of the photos are available on the online school photo album, its still quite meaningful. 2nd one was messages by the teachers. nice..
performances by teachers was next. 1st item was by mr chew aka the like to wear yellow shirt everyday guy. he played on the flute to the tune of if we hold on together. eh. is that the title? not sure. impressive. though a lil nervous initially, he seemed to enjoy performing
2nd item was by mr ho yi kai, his rendition of flying without wings and a chinese song was not bad albeit the slang was a lil artificial. nonetheless, his performance is indeed better than jerry ong who UNFORTUNATELY(notice the tinge of sarcasm) got kicked out yesterday.
the 3rd item was a surprise. if previosuly, some teachers put on a RICE GIRLS performance during song fest with larry lim being scary rice and the bouncy big boops, the english HoD, simon reynolds transformed into britney spears, a bulky one that is. complete with black leggings and this ultra mini short skirt which was too sexy for IT. maybe he can replace kumar at boom boom room. for a more complete description of the ahove, kindly visit gd ol' neighbour's blog.
then was the council pres address. was short and sweet. although he talks like andrew lim?
then college song. nvr hear so loud before. college cheer which was bad coz everyone was in perhaps a solemn OR cant b bothered mood.
oh well. my 2 yr or so stay has officially ended. i still feel im not ready to move on
