Year 2005

January 2005
I was into my 2nd month working at Coccinelle. Was based mainly in Takashimaya SC where things are much more messier than a boutique-store despite the fact that there are less stock and theres no direct dealing with cash/credit card transactions.

I remember frequent lunches with ex tpjcian and ex shss friends. It was a relatively good month despite the fact that i was not sure when i was supposed to be enlisted because apparently MCC forgot about my case. How efficient!

I wanted to do some kind of business. I remember trying to plan. Well, it did materialize later on in march.

I enrolled for driving lessons at CDC on 24/1/2005. And i opened my UOB TX account too.

February 2005
I stopped working at Coccinelle. Landed with another job with Singtel, but working for Workforce Development Agency. I spent 3 weeks interviewing the lower income groups over the phone with regards to their financial status. This is actually part of a survey to gauge the effectiveness of their programme/campaign. So obviously, it is successful to only a certain extent.

After 3 continuous weeks of working in the heart of the CBD(at pickering street), i went back to coccinelle to help out for abt 6 days because they had problem with their staffing.

I celebrated my 19th Bday. remembered that i went to nydc(to have apple crumble ONLY) with ade, hw and qb to celebrate my bday. Andrew did'nt turn up as usual. And i was supposed to meet up with kok, pwee, farah, mel etc because they were hanging ard town and i told them i was in town and they actually bought some big cake for me and i didnt turn up coz it was meant to be a surprise so they didnt tell me abt the cake. look how badly structured my sentences are. This is what army has done to me. Seriously. Oh well. Excuses.

March 2005
Was an interesting month because i actually decided not to work for this month, thinking that i can survive on my past salaries, which is indeed a bad idea. Well just wanted the idea of not having to work, knowing that i will be enlisted in april. So i was supposed to enjoy life.

I concentrated lots on driving in March. Went for at least 3 lessons a week. I know i went for alot of movies especially after my driving lessons.

And oh. the release of A level results. Was definitely dissapointing, but i made it into u anyway so heck-it. Just quite pitiful that input not equal to output. Something was wrong somewhere. I am aware of some of my mistakes and yeap, just learn from it. Apply what i've learnt in life next time. Theres no such thing as excelling every time.

But i know i was quite sad. I didnt expect it to be thattt bad. But i recovered fast. Remember meeting hewwing andrew and ade after that. Ade got the same grades as me. :)

I spent a sunday morning at wild wild wet with qb, after some ppl pangseh us. AND i went to BKK with him after some ppl played us out AGAIN. The trip was good. I love holidays.

April 2005.
Once i came back to Sg, i had an offer to continue helping out at Coccinelle. And so i did for about 8 days. I remember the durian outing at FURRERTON MERRION with jac guosh and ck. I was sick after eating all the durians! And the sparkling juice which had a weird kind of taste.

22April2005 was a date i look forward to albeit with a heavy heart. I was excited to begin my journey in another phase in life, yet sad knowing that i will lose my freedom for 2 years(and the many many years that i will serve as an NSmen).

Introduction to Tekong was quite an eye opening experience. It was harsh and rowdy but at the same time orderly and disciplined. I shall not talk much abt this. its boring. seriously.

May 2005
Skip the entire part of this
field camp was painful..

June 2005
Passed Out.
Went Malaysia by taking a train and meeting my parents there who drove up earlier on.
Posted to 1 GSMB
was new. very new.

July 2005
Transferred over to NSmen Section.
Went for alot of MA in order to "clear" my FFI for overseas posting(which i failed subsequently).

Fastforward to
August 2005
Had my 1st ICT. WOW~
Horrifying section scolding sessions from the CO.
National Day holiday
OH I FAILED MY DRIVING. so did many other ppl who took on the same day. Even huayching who took the same car as me.
Coz i got 18 points deducted for parallel parking coz i knocked down the pole and kept adjusting the steering. Was kind of screwed up lah.

September 2005
Life goes on... and onnn. I cannot remember anything significant. :)

October 2005
My mum's bday. Yes. Fasting Starts..

November 2005
Hari Raya. ICT. ehh preparation for COC! lol

December
now.. fasttttt

well. as usual i tend to talk too much at the beginning of my entry
now im tired shall continue tmr. haha. bad storyteller dont uthink so

Just came back from TPJC Alumni Concert. Yes it was TPJC's Alumni inaugral supposedly full length concert with guest choirs from bendemeer and Jurong West Secondary. I went with Mark but ended up with a few bandmates like simin fumin and calvin. The Choirs performed an array of songs for the 1st Half. Needless to say, although im not musically(choir) inclined, cld say that the performance was average, although the performers were trying their very best, which is commendable actually.

The 2nd Half was started by 2 percussion ensemble pieces. And it was damn nice lah. The 1st piece, i think the brazilian fest - they used to play it after every band prac, a tradition introduced by ex tkss band members. Lol. Then the brasses and woodwinds entered the stage and presented the 1st piece - Orient Express, which was indeed very very impressive. Overall the brasses were fantastic. Resulting in the overpowering of the woodwinds. To sum it all up however, got to say i was pleased with the performance. I cannot say im pleasantly surprised because i know that the alumni band is made up of undoubtedly powerful, skillful, talented and dedicated players. Well Done.

After the concert, i smuggled myself backstage where i took some photograph with my section mates and interacted with some band members. Afterwhich i walked to Lao Pa Sat with Mark to have supper and took a bus home. Oh good luck to him. Enlisting to Commandoes. LOL!

Anyway, its time of the year again where people talk abt goal and objective setting, in common folk terms, New Year Resolution. Do we come up with a list of targets we want to try to achieve just because everyone else seems to do so. Do we reassess our goals and objective we have set when we discover we are unable to achieve it? Do we try to fulfil what others want us to succeed in? Do we ever think that we can come up with our resolution at any time, instead of the beginning of a new year. But anyway, im coming up with mine this few days.. So.. PO-DAH!

Alright, it has been a good xmas weekend. Just a brief summary on what i did. On X'mas eve i met up with dor kok pwee and candy at swensen's parkway. We hang around abit, and i went home. Yes, it might sound pretty boring. However, its the company of the people around you that makes an outing meaningful and worth remembering. And once again, being the ever nostalgic me, i kind of missed the old times.

I didn't do anything much on xmas, just that i helped out with ccpg a little these few days. I went to terrence's place on xmas itself; he had a party and it was well attended by his friends and his eurasian relatives who look malayish. It was like a gathering of tpjcians; but all of them from science and there were only 2 girls, dor and claudia. They played mahjong and poker and what not(how appropriate..) so i went home.. to sleep.

Back to work for 2 days. Havent been talking to oic cause of the incident last week. Had a dinner treat from my colleague today. Met Lim and Chew came along. Was quite fun. My colleague is damn nice to us NSF, although she don't earn much, she still try to treat us as and when she can afford to.

I'm on leave tmr, but i still got no idea what i'm going to do. Hope i don't waste it, coz leave is PRECIOUS. Coz leave = time. :)

Everyone is in the holiday mood right now. However unlike previous years, this xmas-new year season is not as hyped up as previous years. Probably its because i'm not having school holidays now. But nonetheless, i have been trying to get into the mood only to find myself wondering where all my money disappeared too.

I spent A LOT OF MONEY on FOOD yesterday. We were granted time-off by our CO who graced our Branch Lunch. I stayed until 4pm to wait for the hardware engineer to help with our eMob programme. We were damn pissed with the small boss yesterday(even orderly room) because of his indecisiveness. In his position, he should not try to rectify or find a remedy to a problem which is beyond his ability.

Anyway, back to the point - Arranged to meet HW, Ade, Andrew and QB for dinner yesterday. Got to say that it has been quite a long time since i last had such a pleasant outing. I was early as usual, managed to get those comfy seats at Fish & Co. Wheelock Place. HW arrived next(she was 45 min late), after which Ade and QB arrived together. We waited a while before deciding to place our orders. I had sweet and sour fish with chips. yummy! And we were almost completing our food when andrew finally arrived. It was a little squeezy. After that we decided to take some pictures along orchard road. And then we went to Paragon Starbucks to have some coffee. Then we decided to go Mt Faber for fun; but adeline had to leave.

Mt Faber is a nice place. I think the whole place have just been renovated and revamped. We had some drinks and then took a walk around. I reached home at 2, thanks to andrew's ride. The new car is super big lah~

What i spent on
$25 - Chocolates (Gifts)
$18 - Fish & Co Dinner
$5 - Mocha Frap
$10 - Virgin Margaritha(no alcohol of course!)

But its okay to splurge on food once in a while.
And HW had a blow job, as in her drink was called blow job. haha. it's damn amusing...

Reflection

Today marks my 8th month in service, since 22nd April 2005.I had mixed feelings as the date drew near; anticipating the new and uniquely different lifestyle my peers often talk about and at the same time worried that I will lose my freedom.

On the evening of 21st April 2005, I slept late – at about 2am. I woke up at about 7. Had breakfast and read the papers, And then I actually went to the shops nearby to try to get stuff that I missed out earlier on, like black rubber bands, but obviously those shops didn’t sell them. I left my hse at ard 11 with a heavy and sad heart, thinking that it will be 2 long weeks before I could step into my own house again.

My dad drove to the ferry terminal. We board the ferry and upon embarkation .. alright I really cant write descriptive stuff.

To summarise it all, the eight months been quite good. Although I experienced one of the worst phases in my life through bmt, it was erm interesting. Its been 6 mths since I stepped into my current unit. Oh well, I can’t stand big boss. I mean, who can? Argh. Shall not waste my time talking abt him.

Anw, today was a superbly tiring day which ended with a messy note; our software&hardware programme is SCREWED. HELP

I went through some of my own testimonials. And here are some interesting(funny) ones..

Ekta :
Ridza is weird.

Ridza works at a place with a name
that can't be pronounced, that sells
bags and watches at prices that can't
be announced, and keychains that
cost $70.

Ridza doesn't want to steal one of
those watches for me, so that i can
pawn it and use the money for more
useful things like rebuilding the
homes in Aceh, feeding starving
children in Ethiopia, or buying myself
pretty new things.

That is why Ridza and I hate each
other. Because Ridza is mean, and I
am nice.

Jacinth :
in the world of economic crisis and
uncertainty, especially in view of recent
human and natural catastrophe where a
country's GDP is likely to be adversely
affected, our standard of living, ie quality
of life is inevitably at stake. hence, one
may want to consider setting up a plot
to kidnap this guy here coz while
everyone's lacking money, he's earning
big bucks. what's more, he's so skinny
dipped so the p(ridza retaliating)=0 or p
(ridza not retaliating)=1 by law of total
probability. u know i don usually crap
like this but it's uncontrollable when it
comes to associating with this chap
here. i've always marvelled at his ability
to have a soliloquy even longer than that
of marcus brutus. but that's what makes
him so entertaining and nice to talk to.
he's darn friendly, always making friends
with aunties. been great knowing ya.
else my online life would have been so
dull. and been great mugging with u.
though we only did twice. and forget
about running and gyming pls. just stuff
more.

Andrew:
He's a 101% Bodek Kiasu King

Nadia :
eh i think you are going mad. told you
that already. li cha the mad.

nadia says:
dont fren you!
ridza says:
ok
ridza says:
we divorce
nadia says:
we were never married hi
ridza says:
we can always divorce 1st before gettin
married

now is my cue to say wtf. wtf. hi i think
you are mad. it's all that goddamn
macks, geog with sHahlan and
kelvintan, eh? evirr all of it! EVIRR!!!

signing off,
mui kwee with the upside down badge

razinah:
yesterday ridza told me his boss
got cousin.. indian guy, 23 and
single. he ask me if im interested. i
ask what's his name.

he don't know.

i ask him to pass the indian guy's
number to me.

he don't know the number.

i ask him to pass my number to that
guy.

he say he quit his job already.

then why he ask me if i'm
interested?

becoz he wanna get married to me
since he loves me so much.

but u know what i said?

i said no.

u know why?

because he nvr go clubbing with
me last saturday.

now i sound exactly like ridza.
damn weird la.

ridza went to thailand without me.

i'm never going to thailang ever again.

(oh ya btw, i don't friend you.)

hak:
RIDZA, heard u got sack ? feel so
sad for u, well its kinda expected
yea,(
riddyculuous. says:
BAD WORKER : MOHD RIDZA
)
and now he's working for
singapore general hospital, as
wad? some telephone operator eh,
can call him and chit chat.. well
anyway happy new year, see u
soon guav

Well. After reading the a/m, who is weird(er)? Me or my friends?

One thing i will never be when i grow up is

1. Property Agent, notably HDB ones.
There was this chinese dude, young bugger who just rang my doorbell and greeted assalamualaikum(which is peace be upon you) and i ran down to the door, opened it and ta-da 2 property agent with ERA identification passes on a lanyard over their neck. And amazingly i chatted quite long with them. Just asked them for the valuation for fun. And yeah. He said its going for about 420k and when my dad bought it, it was 500k. LOL.

2. FISHBALL NOODLE AUNTIE(malay one)
THere was no taugey. And there were no chilli soaked in soya sauce. She was so rude(like someone in AYMC, seriously she was like giving a fuck care attitude) and i told her straight at her face in malay, "Is this how you do your work?"

Anyway. im eating oranges. I was wondering why the juice(yeah those watery thing they produce when u bite them) was making my eyes painful. When i realised i am sitting right in front of the fan, next to the tv watching the channel 8 show. Abt this wedding planner shiet. Lol. TV usually sensationalise, esp channel 8 soapies - making everything glamorous to even appear more glamorous.

Im quite angry with the grandfather in office.

This seems to be a month for my bank accts. Seriously i'm starting to wonder what i spent on. I spent so much on food yesterday, thanks to the little outing with kok pwee and dor(no doubt we had lots of fun like the goood ollllddd times in jc) but hey, i should be shopping instead of eating! :)

Town's pretty packed at this time of the year. Been bumping into a lot of people. With 2 more weeks left in our calender, i realised that my schedule is going to be very packed. At work itself, i have problems trying to clear the remaining 2 days of leave that i have. I have applied for half day leave on monday and tuesday but have not gotten it approved by our beloved boss yet.

Anw, its damn funny. Boss heard me talking over the phone to this super irritating person(all my colleagues cant handle me also). Boss told me not to tell grandfather story coz the guy was asking stuff like "do i have to apply for deferment for mob coz i have classes on everyday?". And when i told others of the EXPERIENCE, they told me to tell my boss that he is the one who tells grandfather stories everyday.

such is life.

Change.

If change is avoidable, would our lives still be the same?
Things Change.
People Change.
I Change.

i cant believe i came up with the following,
337]ridz:ass riddyculously ridzaded.. [225] says:
theres lots of crossroads
[337]ridz:ass riddyculously ridzaded.. [225] says:
and junctions
[337]ridz:ass riddyculously ridzaded.. [225] says:
sometimes, gotta let go. sometimes, gotta look out for traffic.
[337]ridz:ass riddyculously ridzaded.. [225] says:
sometimes, u just gotta stop and let others pass
grace : f*&king off from bizShat says:
thats a great analogy
grace : f*&king off from bizShat says:
i think it takes alot to know which is which
[337]ridz:ass riddyculously ridzaded.. [225] says:
yes. ur driving without a map
[337]ridz:ass riddyculously ridzaded.. [225] says:
without a co driver
[337]ridz:ass riddyculously ridzaded.. [225] says:
and yr headlights. cant really depend on them coz the weather changes
[337]ridz:ass riddyculously ridzaded.. [225] says:
and so does e traffic condition
[337]ridz:ass riddyculously ridzaded.. [225] says:
sometimes u got no petrol. gotta bail yrself at the petrol station.

ok some changes.
1. jean moved out on sat. so sad. :( because she is the only neighbour i know(which makes her my only neighbour then) not living on my level.

2. went for the band fest concert with jac and guosh. i owe guosh 12 bucks. listen up, i owe guosh 12 bucks for the dinner, because he refused to accept my money(i know its only 12 bucks but it's still money). 12 bucks can feed me for erm 1 day. haha. and e concert. frankly i think we were noisy because we were busy reminiscing the past. our past. when we had our band fest(known as wasbe to jac and the rest of rj). and so my juniors were under-represented. it's always like that. was not surprised at all that i didn't recognise ANY of them. :) but i miss tpjc band. room. coz it was our hideout. :) enough said.

3. on my way home today, met melvin goh and richard chung sengalrayan(i know his full name coz bernandine wilhelmina sengalrayan, his sister was my classmate in lower sec), and we chatted abt army all the way from queensway shopping centre to tamp. and as if i didnt had enuff of army in camp.

Today we had our S1 branch Cohesion Activity. Woke up at the usual time, took train to AMK to meet Ms Lee because i had no idea how to take public transport to the place. Naturally, being an easterner, i am only familiar with bedok reservoir.

Anyway, we started walking at around 0845 after a short set of warm-up. Saw Mr Vincent Lee, a new PE teacher and a student probably doing recee. recce. How to spell? And when S1 was leading us with the warmup, the pe teachers were staring lah. But everyone was wearing the SAF issued NB shoes, so its quite obvious that we are from the army.

the walk started at the starting point of the reservoir(DUH!), proceeded to the boardwalk and then walked past singapore island country club and then finally reached the treetop walk(after about 5 or 6km). the view was spectacular.

Then we climbed up and down a series of stairs. haha. at least its stairs lah. We took a rest at one of the huts because it was raining! Actually the rain was intermittent. There were times when the rain sounded to be quite heavy but probably has been intercepted by the lush and thick canopy.

We went on en route to our destination - Bukit Timah, a whooping 7 KM away. So we walked and walked, and even took the wrong route, consequently finding ourselves at a dead end. We made a u-turn and took another route which was quite undulating and slope-y. That path led to Rifle Range road, which is indeed a long stretch of road lah. Along the way we saw lots of monkeys, small dead snakes and even little squirrels dashing across the road. We walked past 2 army camps. S&Ts one. Haha.

It was at murndane service reservoir where we were unsure of the route to take once more. The initial plan of going straight to bukit timah hill was cancelled because everyone was tired. So we continued walking out of rifle range road to Bukit Timah Plaza side and then walked all the way to opposite Beauty World for lunch. Lunch was good. but everyone was too tired to eat, and the dishes were a bit too spicy for our tired stomach and dry throats. Had stingray, sweet and sour fish, fish with chilli, kangkong, kailan, tomyam soup(which is referred to as assam by S1), egg omelette, lots of sotongs and the list continues. It was quite a spread! but there were lots of leftovers lah.

I took a bus to CCK mrt coz i had no idea what other buses are there to take. and i took the train home.

Having studied ecology system for physical geog, i tried hard to recall what i was taught today. Concepts like the recycling of stores in the rainforest, soil profile, microclimates, niches was turned into reality.

I hope for a good weekend. next week onwards gonna be busy, right now we are preparing for emob lah. all the software hardware crap to settle.

I'm chatting with Dasheng, my BMT buddy now. Its exactly half a year since i left that very-sad-and-very-very-sad place called Pulau Tekong. He like some of my other bunkmates, is an armament tech now with the RSAF. It will be great if we cld all meet up some day for dinner or what but of course i dont think its possible because its just impossible. And since i left Tekong for about half a year already, It is almost half a year since im posted to my current unit. Despite a stressful working environment(yes, the P word prevail and is clearly evident around me), i enjoy doing what i'm doing.

However, i am still not satisfied. I want to do more. Because i know i can do more because i haven't been doing enough. Its time to improve, knowing that i am fully aware of my weaknesses and strength. But im just too lazy. And too sick.. like today. and yesterday.

It is interesting to observe the behaviour of commuters each time i take the train or bus. Esp when u take a train packed with working class commuters. Those engaged in blue-collar/construction work as well as the whitecollar "professionals" aspiring to climb up the career ladder. I am able to take note that they behave alike when it comes to rushing for seats.
With lots of seniors writing in to the papers with regards to our inconsiderate youth who refuse to give up their seats to those in need, have we ever noticed that youths rarely occupy seats on trains.
If they really want a seat knowing that they are less abled, they should take the bus or the cab or get their own form of vehicle. This way, they can be guaranteed a seat rightt...

anyway
guess what

Had COC today and hmm having off tmr.
Some things to touch on...

Participating in the marching contingent of COC has given me the opportunity to get to know more GSMBians. For without the numerous practises and rehearsals, i wont even get to know people working in the same building, the building opposite, medical centre, guardroom and all other external companies. To view it from another angle though, now HQ CSM, RSM and many other warrant officers and officers know at least of my existence, if not my name.

Feeling quite sad that LTC Lim is leaving coz the incoming CO doesn't appear to be as flexible as the a/m. Although my section's greatest fear is to receive a phone call from COPA demanding our presence in CO's office immediately, i think those sessions were quite erm interesting. I don't know the new CO's working style but as long as i know i do my job and he don't disturb me, i wont really care.

Lots of applicant for NS OIC post. Its not an easy job. Seriously.

Next.
time to plan the end of 2005. haha
