The deserter-who-suddenly-turned-up-after-9-years case is taking up too much of time. I spent 2 full days on preparing his statement and doing his investigation report. As well as the annexes - i have like over 30 pages of photostated documetary proof extracted from his case file. Through out my entire coming-to-11-months in nsmen office, i've never come across such a case as his, and neither did NSAD, well according to them. So ive been focusing lots on this case sortof neglecting my other work which has piled up.
Stayed-at-home today. Met up with hw, ade and qb at e airport yesterday for dinner at sukothai express in the airport. And then had an ice cream cone each from swensens.
And oh. i was parking at the stadium and there were lots of police. all kinds. riot, traffic and neighbourhood etc. and... i was in my staying-at-home attire ie. shirt and shorts w/o my wallet. and the triangle wasnt up. was quite worried they stopped me bcoz i didnt get parking quite right coz its like an empty carpark. how to see. usually depend on the cars to the left and right.
As usual, i wld say... im trying to save up.. but blah blah blah. money just disappears. Paid 60 bucks for tpt. 20 for yesterday's dinner. how to save up?

been reading 3 books
the 1st one is HOW FULL IS YR BUCKET. quite good but i cant remember the content though. the typical psychology book
the 2nd one im still reading is THE POLITICS OF POLICY MAKING IN SG. published in 2001 so its quite outdated. nonetheless the facts remain.
the 3rd one im reading is ONCE UPON A TIME IN MALAYA. quite a nice fiction book abt life of this chinese boy in malaya during the Japanese Occupation. there was one part of the book where the author described 2 women in their 40s having the time of the life in the bed together.
Oh and talking abt writing reports, i read this WRITING AT WORK book like 1/4 way. hah

Why are they painting my office building when it wont make any difference because the whole place is old and shabby and wornout? The renovation works started off with the staircases and guess what the walls on the staircase itself are showing signs of water seeping through the wall, ie leaking somewhere.. you know it occurs sometimes and so some contractor actually drew circles around such "hot" or rather, "wet" spots and the all the recently painted walls now look like they have been vandalised by some kid on the street.
Ok. I admit it. What i cannot stand is the paint smell. Like today they did the 1st layer. So they smeared white paint all over the walls and the whole place smelt like my block. Because, my block is going through repainting as well. Oh well. i remember the last time they painted my block was in 1999. And it was abt the same time they did up st hildas. and during that time i just moved to my new hse. But that time was worst because both e exterior and interior of my hse was blue and yellow.. and so was my school.
Ok apart from the air freshener, theres been continuous drilling, because the contractors are replacing some cracked, broken old tiles. Aint gonna make any difference because its gonna crack and break again! But it shall be cracked, broken new tiles next time. LOL.
Im still enjoying my job thankfully. I love the sense of achievement at the end of the day. Im putting in all my effort coz of my pride although it kinda hurts coz we arent really appreciated(i mean show that you really appreciate by giving me more money). im working my butts out everyday appeasing nsmen and meeting to their endless needs and desires. And guess what, 150 of them have just been posted to Mindef Reserve. ONE HUNDRED AND FIFTY. Yes im so happy and so are the NSMen. No longer have the case of OVERESTAB

LOOKING BACK
One Year Ago, This DATE
21 APR 2005 was my last day as a civilian. Can still remember the little details of how i prepared myself physically and mentally to face the fact that i was enlisting. Enlisting to fulfil my national obligation as a son of spore. LOL. SO DRAMA HUH?
One Year Ago, This DAY
I enlisted on a FRIDAY(which was 22 APR 05). Woke up with a heavy heart. Unsure and insecure. Left house for the ferry terminal with parents and brother.
- On the first day, Tekong appeared to be so different then how i remember it to be like in the subsequent days to come.
- Seeing my crown of hairy hair(which i kept since A levels) flying onto the ground.
- Discovering that there were a total of 4 ex TPJCians in my bunk.
- Discovering that my buddy was the canoe team vice cpt. Discovering that theres only 1 number difference between my buddy's NRIC and mine.
- Tasting tasteless food and drank undrinkable water.
- Being given a complimetary Phone Card when all the telephones in Tekong were Coin-Operated.
- And discovering that TO ANYBODY's GREATEST FEAR AND HORROR, I WAS POSTED TO MOHAWK to be treated like ........
THE PRESENT
As i approach the 1 Year Mark, it means that i have spent 10 months in GSMB.
- Though the time is relatively short, i have seen quite a number of people come and go. Like today was Raymond - the Docu Medic IC last day. And Jonathan gonna spend his last week in office this coming week afterwhich he will clear his leave all the way till ORD. For this year, I'm gonna bid farewell to 7 people in my office alone.
- I have had 3 section OICs within this short time span. And has experienced 3-4 mths without an OIC. These few mths has really taught me lots of independence. It has taught me to be more resourceful and has developed my mental strength, Soft Skills and PR ability tremendously.
- As i guide juniors, i realise that my own weaknesses and strengths, the wide knowledge i have for in some areas, and the lack of understanding in others.
CONCLUSION
- I hope i will have enough perseverance to strive on for at least half a year more.
- I have always believed in having pride in everything i do, and the everything-also-can-do-and-never-say-die attitude.
- I look forward to a better working relationship with my branch and unit. I hope we can build upon the present rapport that we have, with whoever who is left of course.
- Basically, i just look forward to going ORDing.
END
HIGHLIGHTS OF THIS WEEK
- Today, left office ard 2 to visit DYS1 for his wisdom tooth thing. Ended up at THOMSON PLAZA buying 15 dollars worth of goodies for him and having a drink at Han's.
Was with kenny and timothy. Met dy there.
- Yesterday. Had section dinner as jonathan is going ORD. Was Mdm Lee's treat. Shes indeed very motherly. =)
- Monday went library to borrow books.
Been extremely busy at work. Stuff like monitoring Emob contact tracing, medical screwups, digging up past awol records for one guy from the awol list since 10 years ago who keeps pestering NSAD for his NS Bonus(and we dunno how to deal with him coz he is 42 now), chasing ppl for dockets, creating more and more workfiles, arranging ppl for courses, monitoring medical board results and the list goes on..... and on and on and on...
As the clock strikes 12 tonight, I will keep a vigil. One year gone and One year more. One year more.... =)

Actually can't believe that i sticked to a routine of go-home-straight-after-work for the past few days. But here are some interesting things that happened.
On Wednesday, went out for lunch with Prashant at Ikea. Kenny was supposed to come along too, but then he was caught up with work. I rarely lunch out. Not only because im a stingy fellow who tries to scrimp and save without apparent results, but because theres no more space in the car. Know they always go Holland Village though.
Thursday was Emily's Last Official Day in GSMB. Speaking of which, i have not paid Timothy for her present. So they are starting to axe the DXOs out of GSMB. Emily went over to the Camp Admin Centre or smtg like that at HQ MES. Kinda Sad, because shes a working friend after all. Speaking of which, Albert just ORDed. The first of the seven-odd S1 Branch personnel who are going to leave. After this its Jonathan, DyS1, Aidil, Greg, Chew, Kenny, Jeff.
And we are gonna be left with(in order of ORD), Prashant, Shaun, Arun, Mong, Me(Ridza), Kelvin, Timothy, Brian, Lo.
Actually our branch is quite big huh. haha.
The only "fun" thing i did recently is the outing to Cathay with some of the other branch ppl last wednesday. Can't remember if i had blogged about it. Hah.
But seriously nothing much is happening. Been taking things at a slower pace. Relax and slow down while i can.
Thinking of enrolling in some courses. Other than learning Mandarin and Arabic. Prolly some Econs/Biz/Entreprenurship courses?

made a last minute decision to meet hew wing and andrew. the original plan was to meet them in queensway shopping centre because andrew wanted to buy shoes but it was changed later on due to insufficient time. So i met hew wing and andrew at cityhall after which we went to newton for supper. Afterwhich they sent me home.

One day, i will get into big trouble because of my high level of sarcasm.
To protect ourselves since we are all not high ranking ppl, what i practise is sending out emails which are too polite and courteous to be true.
Utterly disgusted by this DXO from NSAD this afternoon. She is only like 24 and she shouted at me over the phone when i asked her why she wanted the same docket she took a few months ago, AGAIN.
She thought i cld be pushed ard. She thought i didnt understand what she said. So what i did was to reply her, continuing this email thread that has been going on since, you-guess-what.. 2004! And the Injury Case is still not settled. So incompetent~
The worse thing is that she have been liasing with my medical centre. So apparently the medical centre had actually faxed over whatever is in the docket. And she is still not satisfied. So yeap. The docket is liek super thing. U wont believe its an injury report case.
And oh. My New OIC came today. I dont know. Im used to working independently. So having gained exposure and experience in almost all NS matters, im not really afraid.
Just that now that HP isnt on as good terms with S1 as before, S1 is increasingly looking for me to do stuff..
