I think that in general, retailers are taking advantage of the 2% increase of GST come 1st July, to boost sales by misleading customers into thinking that "it is cheaper to make purchases, especially if its above $100 now". In actual fact, unless otherwise stated, the GST is usually included in the price displayed on the tag. I don't think that retailers are going to increase all their prices on the night before 1st July. I think that the price adjustments will be done progressively, over the coming months. If you are one of those rushing out to get the last minute big purchases. Think Again. The party that benefits is the retailer, as only 5% will be deducted from their total sales, and not 7%.
And I guess it will be more expensive to dine at F&B outlets where the 7% gst and 10% service tax is not included. Gosh. Can only afford to eat at Food Court and Hawker Centres..(Fast Food now also so expensive).
Hmm. Ironically, it is typical of Singaporeans to complain about the slightest increase of prices whereas they can happily splurge on things-that-they-want-to-splurge-on.
Anyway, I didnt blog about this yesterday. I sat down in the train. Next Stop. A lady sat next to me. Next stop. An Ah Pek sat down next to the lady. Then the lady spoke very loudly....
Lady: Eh. Cant you see this is the line. You have gone over the line.
Ah Pek: Huh?
Lady: You see. You supposed to sit behind that line. I already got no space.
Ah Pek: Ok Ok. (Buay Song).
I was already giggling because I noticed its always the middle-aged people saying this kind of things to our older folks who are usually oblivious to clear and well-defined demarcations.
3 Stops later, Lady uncapped water bottle and started drinking as happily as a camel.
Ah Pek: Miss. Cannot drink in the train. You know you can get fined for this.
Lady purposely continue drinking as if she just finished running 4km in 20 minutes(hey that's me! After not running for over 2 mths, I am SUPER SURPRISED I can still jog lah). and then she started coughing.. AT ME.. and then she started adjusting her hair. then the hand went into my line lor... so i.
Riddy: hey.. the line... (saying non chalantly)
wah.. her reaction was like..
lady: i didnt go into ur line.. i wont ever want to go into ur line..
riddy: Good For You!
lady: blah blah
riddy: Good For You(sarcastically and gives a polite smile - the same smile as i give to those customers who make me take out all the stock but never buy because either the colour not right, the material not right, the size not right, the blahbah not right).
And then I realised this lady who speaks rather eloquently is crazy lah. Because she keep on pointing to who-knows-what. And she speaks so well. And i told jessica and she told me that all crazy people speaks well.....
